WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) connected with 15,012 constituents during a telephone town hall last night, taking questions and offering updates on the government shutdown, federal operations, and his ongoing work to deliver real solutions for North Carolina families.

“North Carolinians deserve honesty about why this shutdown happened and what’s being done to fix it,” said Congressman Harrigan. “The Democrat continuing resolution does nothing to rein in spending or address the long-term drivers of our debt, it just kicks the can while Americans pay the price. We’re working to reach across the aisle, but we’re not going to sign off on more reckless spending with no accountability.”

Over the course of the call, Congressman Harrigan discussed how the shutdown impacts federal workers and what options exist for furloughed employees, the steps Congress is taking to protect essential programs like Medicare, and why members of Congress should be held to the same standards as everyone else when the government isn’t fully operating. He also spoke about the need for fiscal discipline in Washington and his commitment to ensuring North Carolina families aren’t the ones left carrying the burden.

“This town hall wasn’t about politics, it was about being a resource,” Congressman Harrigan continued. “Even though parts of the government are closed, my offices are open, working, and ready to help. If you’re struggling to access benefits, waiting on a payment, or just need clarity about what’s happening, call us. We’re here to help.”

Constituents who were unable to participate are encouraged to contact Congressman Harrigan’s offices in Washington, D.C. or Hickory for assistance with federal services, or sign up for his weekly newsletter at harrigan.house.gov.
