WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted to pass H.R. 30, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, out of the House of Representatives. This legislation strengthens protections for women and children by ensuring non-U.S. nationals who commit serious crimes, such as domestic violence and sex offenses, are held accountable and removed from U.S. communities.
“Violence against women and children is an unforgivable betrayal of humanity, and our government must act decisively to root it out,” said Congressman Harrigan. “This bill ensures that predators who commit these heinous crimes are barred from finding refuge in our nation. We have a moral obligation to protect the innocent and make our communities safe for every family.”
The Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act expands the criminal grounds for inadmissibility and deportation. Under this legislation, non-U.S. nationals who admit to or are convicted of crimes such as stalking, child abuse, domestic violence, and sex offenses, including conspiracy to commit such crimes, will be ineligible to enter or remain in the United States.
Congressman Harrigan is urging the Senate to take swift action and pass this vital legislation to ensure women and children across the country are protected from violence.
