WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) announced today that his office is seeking a veteran or Gold Star Family member to serve in his Hickory District Office through the Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program.

The individual chosen will assist with veterans-related casework and act as a vital link between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.

“Our nation owes an unbreakable debt to those who wear the uniform and to the families who bear the cost of that service,” said Congressman Harrigan. “As a combat veteran myself, I know firsthand the challenges of transition and the sacrifices Gold Star Families carry every day. This program is about turning that service into continued leadership—helping veterans and families across Western North Carolina get the care and support they deserve.”

The Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program was established by the House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for veterans and Gold Star Families within congressional offices.

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Veterans must be honorably discharged and released from active duty within the last six years.
  • Veterans must have served at or below the pay grades of E-5, O-3, or W-2. Veterans promoted to E-6, O-4, or W-3 within six months of separation are also eligible, provided all other criteria are met.
  • Veterans who have received a 20-year retirement or a Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) are not eligible.

Gold Star applicants must be the spouse, parent, sibling, child, or step-child of a service member who died in the line of duty, or who passed away from a service-connected disability within four years of separation.

Interested veterans and Gold Star Family members should visit www.usajobs.gov and search for “Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program” for full details and to apply.
