WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, formally concluding the 12-Day War:

“This moment marks a turning point in the history of the Middle East. The ceasefire announced by President Trump is not only a diplomatic achievement, it is the result of a strategic military campaign that neutralized Iran’s nuclear program and restored deterrence without a single American casualty.

Over the course of twelve days, the United States demonstrated the full reach and precision of our military capabilities. Although the conflict lasted nearly two weeks, American military action was carried out over just a few days—and it was decisive enough to bring the war to a close. The strikes were swift, effective, and designed to avoid escalation while sending an unmistakable message to hostile regimes: American warnings must be taken seriously.

President Trump did not seek a prolonged conflict. He sought an end to a growing threat and a foundation for lasting stability in the region. The ceasefire reflects that vision, it’s a commitment to peace that is grounded in strength, not appeasement.

I commend the President, our military, and our allies for their professionalism and discipline throughout this operation. My hope is that this agreement is more than just the end of a war and it is the beginning of a new era of accountability, deterrence, and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
