WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted in favor of H.J. Res. 42, a resolution to disapprove the Department of Energy’s rule on appliance standards. The rule would impose costly new certifications and labeling requirements on certain consumer products, which would raise prices for families and businesses across the country.

“This rule would increase costs for hard-working Americans by burdening them with unnecessary regulations,” said Congressman Harrigan. “I will always stand up against policies that make life harder for families. This vote is about protecting consumers and putting a stop to overreach from Washington.”

H.J. Res. 42 also requires the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to evaluate whether certain federal procurement processes are creating national security risks. The OMB will assess the use of the lowest price technically acceptable source selection process and report its findings to Congress.

Congressman Harrigan is urging the Senate to act quickly to block this harmful rule and protect American consumers.
