WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted to pass H.Con.Res. 58, a resolution denouncing socialism in all its forms and reaffirming that the United States must remain a nation rooted in freedom, opportunity, and individual responsibility. The resolution highlights the historic failures and human suffering caused by socialist regimes around the world, including Cuba, North Korea, China, and Russia.
“Socialism has never produced more freedom or more prosperity for anyone,” said Congressman Harrigan. “It replaces opportunity with control and leaves nations weaker, poorer, and less free. Every country that has taken this path has paid a steep price, and the United States should never pretend we’re immune to those consequences. America succeeds because people are free to work, build, and make decisions for themselves, and that’s the future we should protect.”
The resolution makes clear that socialism is fundamentally incompatible with America’s founding principles and warns against efforts to normalize the ideology as it gains favor among some younger Americans. It cites decades of economic collapse, political repression, and humanitarian crises under socialist governments, underscoring why the United States must stand firmly against any movement that seeks to expand state control over citizens’ lives.
H.Con.Res. 58 now heads to the Senate. Congressman Harrigan is urging swift passage to ensure that America remains a nation defined by freedom and opportunity, not government control.
