WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted to pass H.R. 2931, the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act. This bill directs the Small Business Administration to relocate its offices out of jurisdictions that actively obstruct federal immigration enforcement.

“A city that refuses to help remove violent criminals shouldn’t be cashing checks from the federal government,” said Congressman Harrigan. “Sanctuary cities have made it clear they’re willing to put ideology ahead of public safety. That’s their decision, but they shouldn’t expect federal agencies—paid for by the American people—to keep showing up and doing business as usual. This bill makes sure the federal government stands with the law-abiding, not the lawless.”

The legislation requires the SBA to identify any of its regional, district, or local offices operating in a sanctuary jurisdiction and relocate them to areas that comply with federal immigration law. It sets a 120-day deadline for relocation, mandates temporary office closures if deadlines are missed, and authorizes the removal of agency officials who fail to comply. The bill also prohibits the SBA from opening new offices in sanctuary jurisdictions going forward.

Congressman Harrigan is urging the Senate to pass the bill and ensure that taxpayer-funded agencies operate in jurisdictions that uphold the law.
